Discrepancies between experiment and theory in the superconducting proximity effect

چکیده
The superconducting proximity effect is investigated for SN double layers in a regime where the resulting transition temperature Tc does not depend on the mean free paths of the films and, within limits, not on the transparency of the interface. The experimental results for Tc are compared with a numerical evaluation which was recently developed in our group. The results for the SN double layers can be divided into three groups. i When N=Cu, Ag, Au, Mg a disagreement between experiment and theory by a factor of the order of 2.5 is observed. ii When N=Cd, Zn, Al the disagreement between experiment and theory is reduced to a factor of about 1.5. iii When N=In, Sn a reasonably good agreement between experiment and theory is observed.

Inverse proximity effect in superconductors near ferromagnetic material
– We study the electronic density of states in a mesoscopic superconductor near a transparent interface with a ferromagnetic metal. In our tunnel spectroscopy experiment, a substantial density of states is observed at sub-gap energies close to a ferromagnet. We compare our data with detailed calculations based on the Usadel equation, where the effect of the ferromagnet is treated as an effectiv...
متن کاملImpurity Scattering in Carbon Nanotubes with Superconducting Pair Correlations
Effects of the superconducting pair potential on the impurity scattering processes in metallic carbon nanotubes are studied theoretically. The backward scattering of electrons vanishes in the normal state. In the presence of the superconducting pair correlations, the backward scatterings of electronand hole-like quasiparticles vanish, too. The impurity gives rise to backward scatterings of hole...

In this paper, we investigate the superconducting proximity effect for a superconductor with three types of singlet, OSP and ESP triplet pairings in contact with a clean ferromagnetic region. Using the quasiclassical Green’s function approach, we calculate the superconducting pair amplitude function in terms of the characteristic parameters of the system and compare penetration of these superco...
متن کاملHanburyBrownTwiss effects in channelmixing normal-superconducting systems
An investigation of the role of the proximity effect in current cross correlations in multiterminal, channel-mixing, normal-superconducting systems is presented. The proposed experiment is an electrical analog of the optical Hanbury Brown Twiss intensity cross correlation experiment. A chaotic quantum dot is connected via quantum point contacts to two normal and one superconducting reservoir. F...
متن کاملScanning tunneling spectroscopy study of the proximity effect in a disordered two-dimensional metal.
The proximity effect between a superconductor and a highly diffusive two-dimensional metal is revealed in a scanning tunneling spectroscopy experiment. The in situ elaborated samples consist of superconducting single crystalline Pb islands interconnected by a nonsuperconducting atomically thin disordered Pb wetting layer. In the vicinity of each superconducting island the wetting layer acquires...
